Definition of Indigestion: Dyspepsia means "bad digestion" and is commonly known as indigestion. Dyspepsia affects as much as 1/4 of the adult population in the U.S. and is responsible for a significant number of doctor visits. Dyspepsia has many possible causes- some easily diagnosed and others difficult to define. Dyspepsia is persistent or recurring abdominal pain that's centered in the upper abdomen and that lasts more than four weeks.
